Special Olympics basketball takes over Helena gyms

Hundreds of athletes were in Helena over the weekend, here to take part in the Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament. The event spread across gyms in Helena, Montana City and Clancy.

The Capital City and area communities have played host to the event for four years now, and Jamie Wood, Vice President of Sports for Special Olympics Montana, says the event has seen marked growth in that time.

She credits the increasing popularity of basketball in SO, but says, too, that Helena’s central location has helped, along with great gym space, volunteers and leadership volunteers.
