The news director at KCAP, Troy is making a return to radio after a long stint in newspapers. Troy’s first job was, in fact, in at KURL in Billings. He later worked for five years at KACU, an NPR station, in Texas. In the Lone Star State, Troy fell into newspapers and eventually served as an assistant sports editor, sports editor and sports news editor during stops in Texas, Oregon and here in Montana.
He worked for five years as the sports editor of the Independent Record before joining The Montana Radio Company. He has shifted back into news, but is keeping his toes in the sports world, now in his second year as co-host of The Rundown, a one-hour local sports talk show, alongside Jason Walker on sister station 94.9 ESPN.
Troy is the co-host for Montana’s Morning News from 6 to 8:30 a.m. weekdays, and also works with Tim Boulware to find, write and record news in the Helena community for air and online.
As the host of Coffee Break, KCAP’s morning interview show airing weekdays from 8:30 to 9, he aims to both entertain and inform while helping people doing good things in the community continue to do even more good things.
When not at work, Troy enjoys hanging out with his wife, Roxanne, 12-year-old daughter, Elisabeth, and his ever-present shadow, retriever-lab mix Jaeger. He’s also an unashamed Dallas Cowboys and Colorado Avalanche fan, and enjoys perfecting his technique on his Kamado-style smoker.
