New East Helena school to be named Prickly Pear Elementary

A new elementary school being built in East Helena now has its name.

The school district had been taking votes on potential names through an online survey, and on Monday night settled on Prickly Pear Elementary for the new building, which will have classes for first-graders and second-graders.

The school, which is being paid for with a $12 million bond passed by voters in May, is expected to be ready for the 2018 school year.
