Man killed in I-90 crash was Broadwater County detention officer

The man killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 90 near Clinton has been identified by Granite County Sheriff Scott Dunkerson as 19-year-old Dominic Stefano, a Broadwater County detention officer from Townsend.

The Highway Patrol says Stefano’s pickup crossed into the eastbound lanes of the freeway yesterday afternoon and collided with a semi-truck. Stefano was killed, while his passenger and the semi-truck driver were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

The MHP is still trying to determine what caused the truck to cross into oncoming traffic. Currently, neither road conditions, nor speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Similarly, drugs and alcohol are not suspected.

The death is a huge blow to the community, coming just eight months after Broadwater County sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed near Three Forks.
