Helena Youth Against Gun Violence will host a community discussion about gun violence tonight at the Helena Middle School Auditorium. The teens have invited all 17 officially registered candidates in the upcoming election to take part in the student-led forum.
The plan, according to the group, is to provide a voter education forum in which students from across the state can meet with the candidates and discuss strategies to combat gun violence at the state and national level.
House Democratic candidates Grant Kier, Kathleen Williams, John Meyer and Lynda Moss have said they will attend, as did Libertarian Elinor Swanson and the Green Party’s Doug Campbell. Moss has dropped out of the primary, though, so it is unclear whether or not she will still attend.
Senate Green Party candidate Steve Kelly also is expected to be at the forum.
The event, scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., is open to the public.
