Helena Middle School student injured by school bus Tuesday

Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, HPD officers responded to an accident at Helena Middle School involving a 13-year-old boy and a school bus.

According to Lt. Cory Bailey, a 2008 Dodge Avenger was parked on 16th in the yellow zone waiting to pick up a student from HMS, and the bus — driven by a 75-year-old male from Helena – was eastbound on 16th attempting to turn north on to Rodney, in order to pull in to the parking area in front of the school.

The student walked beside the school bus between the car and the bus. The driver of the bus was not aware of the boys, which resulted in an accident.

Non-life threatening injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital.

There were no passengers on the school bus at the time and no other injuries were reported.

The accident is still under investigation. The driver of the parked passenger car was issued a citation for parking in a yellow zone. No other citations have been issued at this time.
