Helena Campground and RV Park has been split in two.
Tenmile Creek has a history with the park, and there’s a channel it likes to run in when it reaches the point it did this weekend. So, rather than try to fight the inevitable, work began Thursday to pile sandbags along the path the water was going to use. That way, the hope was, the water could be kept there instead of it immediately threatening homes.
By Sunday afternoon, when torrential rain was added to snowmelt, those sandbags proved necessary, and floodwaters bisected the neighborhood in the North Valley, which also saw Rossiter Elementary School’s parking lot and the adjacent Sierra Road flooded.
