Deputy in officer-involved shooting back on duty

The Lewis and Clark County sheriff’s deputy involved in a fatal East Helena shooting has returned to work.

A shooting board review of Andrew Blythe’s actions leading up to the shooting death of Taylor Schnortz found he followed all administrative rules.

A coroner’s inquest will still look into the 26-year-old’s death, but Blythe went back to work last week after being on leave.

Investigators say Blythe and other deputies were negotiating with Schnortz, who also had a gun, for more than an hour at a home on Casper Drive earlier this month when they say Blythe fired to protect himself and others present.
