Carroll’s Ryan Imhoff named NAIA men’s player of the year

HELENA (AP) — Carroll College forward Ryan Imhoff was named the NAIA Division I men’s basketball player of the year — the first Carroll basketball player to be so honored.

The award was announced Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri, at the conclusion of the NAIA men’s tournament championship game.

Imhoff, the Frontier Conference men’s player of the year, said he’d dreamed of receiving the national honor, but didn’t think it would happen.

He averaged 19.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.4 steals and a blocked shot per game as Carroll posted a 28-6 record, won the league tournament and advanced to the second round of the NAIA national tournament. Imhoff tallied 30 points and 10 rebounds in Carroll’s 61-43 first-round win over Lindsey Wilson on March 15.

Dom Robinson of Montana Western received the national tournament’s hustle award while Montana State-Northern received the team sportsmanship award.
