BOZEMAN (AP) — A Bozeman police officer who responded to a reported assault shot and killed an intoxicated man who came at officers with a handgun and a hatchet.
Police Chief Steve Crawford says the suspect was reportedly assaulting his roommate late Thursday.
The roommate met officers outside the residence. Crawford says the suspect would not cooperate with police and eventually came toward them at the front door while holding the two weapons.
An officer shot the suspect and he died at the scene just after midnight. His name has not been released.
No officers were injured.
The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and the Gallatin County sheriff’s office are investigating.
